For decades I've been waiting for the perfect intro to viruses and now it's here! Several authors and publishers have attempted this on the introductory/undergrad level, but no one has ever really succeeded.
Harper's strengths: clear nontechnical language, concise and compact format, beautifully illustrated, appealing layout, current facts, study questions, internet sources, Appendix I: replication cycles/strategies of major virus families, perfect for reference and visual learning! Appendix II: viral drugs in tabular form including names, target, mode of action, formulas - a combined textbook and reference.

All in all, an excellent didactical approach - great job by author and publisher! TCH Cole, Heidelberg

Not very detailed at all. I am VERY surprised this book is being used in a graduate course. Personally, I couldn't see this being used in any biology (major) undergraduate course either. I've seen more detail of viruses in terms of replication and virulence in molecular biology books than what I've seen in this.

Learning about Mehmed was educational

I liked the way the author told the story of Mehmed. Mehmed was not a great person, but at least he was tolerant of other religions. What amazed me is,as a muslim, he did try to learn the Christian faith. But, then again, this is how people know their enemy. They try to learn all they can. They learn what fears they have and what they value most. He was a greedy conqueror, killed millions, and was a sick man who liked young boys. I would have liked to have more information on his whereabouts during his life, but it was an informative book that did not stray from many facts. I would recommend reading this book.

Difficult to read but it worths

Not a popular book, for sure, with all the details and historical evidences... But it provides an excellent picture of the time and gives strong clues about what we live today at these parts of the world and why we are facing these problems... I have known the Ottoman history from the Turkish version, as do so many people when it comes to the past of their own country... But reading this, I understood once again how important it is to learn the other versions of the reality... If it could have been possible for all, I am sure life on earth would be much peacefull with the help of lessons to be taken from the past...

A flawed attempt

Sadly, this book was in desperate need of not only a skilled editor to correct grammatical and spelling errors (even in well-known band names), and to improve the coherence of the often choppy writing style, but also a trustworthy researcher to correct the factual errors about festival locations and dates, the performers who actually performed, and other key details. Readers interested in this subject would be much better served by tracking down the definitive and far more accurate and readable chronicle of the golden age of rock festivals: "Aquarius Rising-The Rock Festival Years", by Robert Santelli.

I recieved my copy , today. This is one of the best instructional books , I've ever read. Filled with info ,projects,beautiful photos!
It covers all necessary information and more. I was thrilled to read about viking knitting.(Not very easy to find), it was in this book! I've never done a review before and i have many books.
I highly recomend. Can't wait to read more from her.

The Art of Wire - Creative Techniques for Designer Jewelry

The book begins with sections on materials such as Wire (different shapes, gauges, metals, hardness, etc.), tools (all the different kinds of pliers, etc.) and basic techniques (wrapping, hammering, loops, coils, etc.). I've never seen this next subject in any jewelry-making book before, and I think it's really helpful! The chapters are divided up into "Hammered Wire", "Wrapped Wire", Wire Filigree", "Wire Crochet", etc. The projects are beautiful. There are plenty of numbered written steps and plenty of clear, close-up photos to go with each step. This is wonderfully helpful. I highly recommend this book.
