About the Author
Author Jean-Pierre Hourdebaigt, L.M.T. was born in the south of France and came to Canada in the early 1980s where he pursued a successful career as a Licensed Massage Therapist treating many well-known athletes and dignitaries from around the world. Excellent Resource for Dog Owners who Want to Learn Massage for Dogs

This book is the most useful guide I have found for canine massage. I have a large dog who loves being stroked, and so I decided to take advantage of that and learn as much about canine massage in an effort to help him with relaxation as well as rehabilitiation. This book is replete with detailed diagrams that show the skeletal and muscular anatomy of dogs so that a layman (like me) can read this book and immediately apply the techniques effectively.

From personal experience, I have been able to use the massage techniques learned from this book to relax my dog during thunderstorms, and to help relieve muscle spasms that occur (which I believe are related to his arthritis, as he is a canine senior citizen).

This book provides straightforward instructions along with detailed diagrams to speed the reader's learning curve, and I highly recommend it.

Aside from everything else, I am able to now spend time giving my dog a gentle, loving massage, just as a gesture of love. It is so nice to know I am easing away his physical tension as I massage, and his 'sighs' of relief as I work my way along his body give me the approval responses I need to know I'm doing the right things, and I know I've hit a home run when he starts to snore!

GREAT Instructions and pictures

This book is phenomenal. It doesn't treat you like you are a complete idiot which is its first attribute. Then the instructions are very simple and easy to understand. The pictures have got to be the best part of it all. Really easy to understand. HIGHLY recommend this book!

Design Aglow Posing Guide for Family Portrait Photography has the presence of a stunning coffee table book with the punch of an amazing business resource. I actually prepared myself to read this book, setting up a lounge chair and iced tea under the oak trees of my backyard. This is an experience I know I am going to appreciate, like seeing an Oscar-winning film for the first time. The author Lena Hyde is a friend and needs no introduction - her portrait business reached celebrity status years ago and her premier online site Design Aglow sets the bar for quality and impact in the photography industry.

The first thing I noticed is the brilliance of the cover, and the hefty quality of the book. Over two hundred pages of thick matte paper I can't wait to finish even before I begin. I'm looking forward to learning 100 modern ideas for photographing newborns, babies, children, and families. I gingerly lifted the cover as if handling a centuries old document, and peek inside. My reaction is audible as I flip the first pages. Awwww. Cuuuute. Powerful. Good ideas. I'm going to mimic that pose tomorrow!

As a father of three, I see myself in the photo "Here's looking down at you kid" an aerial shot of dad looking down at his newborn son on his lap with the family Dalmatian greeting baby (p17).

In "Sweet somethings" I see myself wishing I had a shot kissing my wife while holding the beautiful baby she delivered for our family (p23).

Every page has a portrait any client would instantly crave. Don't miss the helpful lighting information in the captions. For example:

- Here, buildings block the strong, directional sun. To prevent squinting, make sure the subject isn't looking into strong, reflective light (p70).
- As the sun sank lower in the sky, the subjects turned, so the light struck the sides of their faces here (p75).
- This image is sidelit from behind the trees on the right without reflectors. To prevent light from coming through the leaves and thus spotting the parents' faces, a blanket was used in the trees (p212).

Each page has a tip full of posing hints, important technical facts, and added portrait ideas. For example:

- Unconventional backdrops, and even flooring, lend depth and added character to the young subject being photographed (p79).
- Make backgrounds as simple as possible to keep the focus where it belongs: on the connection between your subjects. Shallow depth of field will also blur the background and keep the focus right where you want it (p50).
- Layers of clothing are adaptable and perfect for portraits: cardigans can be on or off, shirts buttoned or unbuttoned, cuffs turned up or left down, shirttails hanging out or tucked in, and ties worn loose, cinched up, or not at all (p82).
- Grab pictures at locations that indicate the family's home or town, whether near the city's "Welcome to" sign or a post office that shares the town's name (p217).

About the Author
Jepkorir Rose Chepyator-Thomson is a professor in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Georgia. Her teaching and research interests include public policy, global diversity in sport, and gender, race, and ethnicity in physical education. She is the author of sixty publications including one book, African Women and Globalization, and several chapters and research articles. She has appeared on 20/20 and NPR.

Shan-Hui Hsu is associate professor in the Office of Physical Education at National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan. Her teaching and research interests include gender studies in sport, popular culture in media technology, and physical education and sport pedagogy. She is the author of Identity, Difference and Voicing: Pedagogical Praxis in Gender Studies (2009), Sociology of Sport (2012), and seven research articles.

Excellent, Concise, and Thorough!

This large format book reveiws basic metabolism in an easy to understand manner. Specific segments of the metabolic pathway are summarized within two pages. Each face-page gives an overview of the entire metabolic pathway, with an outline of the specific topic discussed within that section. Far easier to comprehend than the metabolic pathways as described in those well known Biochemistry tomes, where the entire metabolic pathway is spread over 100 or so pages!

great view of the big picture

Metabolism at a Glance helped me in an advanced metabolism class: it shows all the inter-relationships between the different metabolic pathways, and overall is very complete. I purchased it on recommendation by one of my professors. I imagine that this book will be helpful to anyone in fields such as nutrition, exercise physiology, biochemistry, and at the very least is a good companion to any graduate level biochemistry/physiology textbook or class. The text can be small despite the oversized nature of the book, but then again, there's not much that can be done to resolve that given the number of enzymes, substrates, etc. involved in these pathways. I highly recommend this book.

Essential if you are a visual learner

This book is saving me as I take my medical biochemistry class now. This book maps many of the pathways on one page (the book has large pages) so you can see how different pathways are interconnected and where in the cell various processes occur. I learn things visually and like to see the big picture. So, learning different pathways and parts of pathways spread on several lecture notes don't help me much as this book does. This book is a major reason why I have a solid A in the class so far. I highly recommend it for metabolic or medical biochemistry classes.

Thanks for this product, it's got me back into my yoga practice.

When my children were born I stopped going to yoga classes and tried to continue at home with the time I had. A friend of mine gave me these cards as a gift, saying it would help me get back into my yoga practice, which is exactly what it did. With these cards I can practice different sequences depending on the moment, and in a way that is comfortable wherever I go - as the packet is pocket size. The quality is important for me so I can see the asanas and their directions clearly so as not to force the posture - and these are shown perfectly. The simplicity that you explain each posture make these cards a wonderful aid that I don't hesitate to recommend. Thanks!

Just received my flash cards. Love them they are in color & have a description on the back but they also have arrows showing you what way body parts should be turned. And come in nice plastic case to keep them in. Deliver was fast and showed up before estimated time. Thank you so much they are great for a beginner like me.

Little Book...Delightful Read!

I have an old original copy of this recipe book. It is one delightful read! Recipes are generally easy and possible to make. Mrs. Brian Luck would have been a very interesting and entertaining person to know! Her spunky commentary and surprising bits of wisdom make this book a keeper.
