Excellent Collection for those interested.

This is a surprising collection of Buddhist ideas and History; Better than the usual tired, flat, mystical magic show stuff too often pedaled in books and audio, although some of that has something to offer as a baseline. This is good, real good. Also recommend Zen and the Japanese Culture by Susuki... the second half is what caught my attention on a young Samuri in training suddenly came to the realization that to survive he must give up hope of surviving. Makes sense, begging for mercy, not going to work. This Dummies book is good in that it provides the whole spectrum from, don't step on a worm to what Siddhartha actually might have been saying about Nirvana... a sleep without a dream. All that reincarnation stuff followed after the master [lower case - just like he would want it] who "got it" thenty-five hundred years ago! Lesser beings followed and provided the needed soft cuddle...

A GREAT Book!!

I was recommended to read this book in my quest to learn more of Buddhism. I've begun reading many other books on Buddhism and found it to be overwhelming. This is the first "for DUMMIES" book I've bought. The book is written in simple, layperson's terms so I was immediately drawn to continue reading. I learned so much in a short period of time due to the flow which it is written. Lots of clues given to remind you of important areas. Although I found all of it interesting, thought-provoking, and extremely applicable to daily living.

A definite buy for someone to learn about the middle way

These dummy books are stupendous. I read this book and understand the basics tenets of Buddhism of the four noble truths and the eightfold path. It was also nice to learn about other aspects and the differences between the various sects (Theravada, Mahayana and Tibetan) Buddhism. A must buy for anyone interested in learning more and practicing the dharma!

like our God

Our chakras, like our God, are invisible, but they sustain us as surely as the elements of life we can see, like water and sunlight. This book explains in clear, uncomplicated language why that is true and how we keep them from doing their necessary work by letting them close.
For me the most valuable section of the book may have been Part One, which synthesizes ascended master teachings on healing with the latest scientific discoveries on energy. Then, when I moved on to learn about the individual chakras and the spiritual rays of light to which they relate, I understood what I was working toward with each invocation.
The book includes teachings from Mother Mary and from masters representing each of the seven rays. They were given during a conference at Lourdes, where many come with the hope of being healed by the waters. The invocations are easy, even pleasant, to recite, no matter how fast you like to read them, and they include one for clearing the secret heart chakra, which doesn’t always get attention.
I see this as a book I will work my way through several times, if not many. Almost certainly some sections will come to feel more relevant than others as I sense which chakras are open—or at least starting to open!—and which my false beliefs keep stubbornly closed, or nearly so. I expect this achievement by Kim Michaels to stand as one of his most valuable gifts to the world.

Kim Michael's "Heal Yourself by Clearing the Chakras" is a magnificent book. It provides you a deeper knowledge of your chakras so you can get a glimpse of which of your chakras are clear, under-active, or over-active. This book provides invocations to call upon specific arch-angels and teachers to help you with your chakra cleanse. If you truly want healing, be prepared to challenge your current perspectives on life and be more open-minded because it is not enough reading the invocations out loud to demand healing—you have to understand and apply these invocations in your everyday life. Overall, this book gives you a deeper meaning of self-healing.

If I could give it a 10, I would

First of all my review is on the 1979 version of this book. It has been in my possession that long. Once again today, it helped me drag up a mathematical fact I had long forgotten.
In 1976 I graduated from college with an associates degree in engineering. I had high school algebra, geometry, trigonometry and calculus behind me. Also with my two year degree, I had calculus, analytical geometry and differential equations as well. I needed a single reference that would cover everything. Then I happened upon this book in a bookstore. What a prize this was!
Since that time, I have completed both my B.S.M.E and a Masters in Mechanical Engineering and I have this dog eared book beside me at all time. From looking up linear algebraic equations, differential calculus, vector analysis, complex variables, all the way to the formula for the eccentricity of an ellipse for my son this evening, this book has baled me out of referring to ten other books. It is well worth the investment.
Ironically, years later when discussing a geometric equation with a co-worker he commented that he relied on a great reference he found in book store many years earlier while attending college. You got it, it was the same book.
What I can't speak to is the last two chapters that are new to this edition. Mine only goes to Chapter 20.
What I also should note, as a Mechanical engineer using this, I found it incredibly useful. I have no idea if a person that does not regularly use geometry, trigonometry, algebra, calculus, linear algebra, etc., would get very much use from it or not. For students in this field I found it to be very useful. Basically, read the table of contents Amazon provides and make your own judgement.

The book is organized into 22 chapters taking the user from algebra to the properties of space curves and surfaces. The text is straightforward: examples and lots of them.
If you are looking for a text to learn mathematics - this is the not the book for you. But, if you need help to dust off the cobwebs, or to find a usable example to solve a complex problem - it is the right book.

I've used the 1st & 2nd edition of this book for years, and I highly recommend it for anyone who need a ready reference for math. The 4th edition has even more useful material
