About the Author

Ioannis Lianos, University College London, Peter Davis, Compass Lexecon, Paolisa Nebbia, Italian Competition Authority

Ioannis Lianos is a Reader in European and Competition Law and Economics at University College London and the Gutenberg Research Chair at the Ecole Nationale d'Adminstration in France. He is the author, contributor and editor of 7 books including Competition Law and the Enforcement of Article 102 (OUP 2010) and The Global Limits of Competition Law (Stanford University Press 2012). Ioannis Lianos was awarded the prestigious Philip Leverhulme Prize in 2012 for his influential research on economic evidence.

Peter Davis is Executive Vice President of Compass Lexecon in London where he specialises in competition policy and regulatory investigations. Previously, he was the Deputy Chairman of the Competition Commission (2006-2011) and President of the Association of Competition Economics (2009-2011). Peter Davis read for his PhD in Economics at Yale University and is the co-author of the leading textbook Quantitative Analysis for Competition and Antitrust Investigations (Princeton University Press 2010).

Paolisa Nebbia is a faculty member of the International University College of Turin and works at the Italian Competition Authority. She was a fellow in Law at St Hilda's College Oxford and a Reader in Law at the University of Leicester. Her specialisms include competition law, EU law, consumer law and comparative contract law. She is also a co-author of EU Consumer Law (OUP 2004).

It is hard to say which is better, the book or the movie

They are as different as night and day. The only thing the movies have in common with the book is the character of Jason Bourne. The stories are totally different. There is no car race through the streets of Paris in a mini; there is no escape from the American Embassy. But the action is fast and the story is real. The author had to have spent time in the places he writes about because that is the only way he could have known the subtle nuances that he describes. Of course the last Jason Bourne book was written in the early 90's when cell phones weren't as prevalent as they are now. But the talent of the man Jason Bourne is still the same. The speaker of a number of languages, he understands many cultures. Robert Ludlum does an excellent job in sucking you into the world of Jason Bourne and into his love for his women. But unlike in the movies, she doesn’t die. Her strength and love for this mercurial man is astounding. Her determination to keep him safe and is willing to go to any length to keep him in her life.
In the first book he appears out of nowhere and kidnaps her, forces her to help him escape from a hotel. She is furious for his intrusion and the sudden danger he thrusts her into. Then when they are captured and she is taken to the river to first be rapped, and then murdered, Jason goes to extraordinary lengths to save her. After saving her, he is badly wounded, he is ready to die, still not knowing why this is happening he commands her to get out while she can. Leave she does, but doesn’t get too far.
She realizes that he came back to save her, at great risk to his life, and if she leaves, he will most likely die. She returns, refuses to listen to his pleas for her to leave him, she takes him to a hotel where she nurses him back to health. Now she has thrust herself into a strange series of events that will not only test her resolve but his.
He teaches her to be a Chameleon, to play the spy game. As he suddenly learns who he is, how he got there, as the memories come back, a connection is formed between them. A bond that was not forged in a weekend love tryst, but melded from being placed into danger and depending upon the other for a rescue. As this woman and Jason experience more, and do more together, they suddenly find that their complimentary presence is needed by the other.
As the story line of each book is revealed, you realize the extraordinary talents of this man called Jason Bourne, and his alter ego David Webb. I LOVE the movies, but you should definitely read the books!

I am a big fan of the Bourne films--they're smart, exciting, complicated. I picked up the books to pre-read them for my teenage son (who wanted to read them) and quickly realized I was going to have trouble putting the books down. While I wouldn't recommend the books for young teenagers--violence, profanity, more sensuality than I'd allow personally--they are BRILLIANT. What I was most surprised about was how dramatically the screenplays diverge from the books, especially after the IDENTITY. While some (and only some) of the characters overlap between film and book, their characters (including Bourne's) are dramatically different than they are portrayed in the films, making for a completely new and exciting experience to read the books for the first time. Ludlum is genius in his vivid descriptions and well-researched locations--you'll wonder how he knows so much about so many different places in the world, and the books literally take you around the world and back. Highly recommend (for a more mature audience)!

I had bought the Bourne series in paperback years ago. I wanted a kindle copy to read them again. It should be mentioned if you saw the movies, you did not see the same story that is in the books. I love the movies, but they took great liberties with the characters and the story. I can tell you the books are just as riveting, action packed, etc. They have an enemy named Carlos and people live that died in the movies (and visa versa). I love my kindle, so this was a natural step. You will enjoy this series.

I have found the work of Albert Ellis and the form of CBT that he came up with, REBT ( Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy) to be pretty useful.

This book introduces REBT and has transcripts from some of Ellis' therapy sessions.
It is very interesting. However the book is somewhat expensive and there a few typos as well.

I think that there are better and cheaper books about REBT from Albert Ellis and also writers like Windy Dryden.

I did quite like this book and I did get something out of it but I don't think I would really recommend it.

Nisarg Thakkar is a software developer and a tech enthusiast in general. He primarily programs in C++ and Java. A very useful and deep source of knowledge regarding OpenCV application to develop mobile apps.

This book is aimed to both mobile app developers who want to improve the graphic functionality to a new level (3d gaming, augmented reality, etc) or to opengl desktop developers who want to extent his projects/products to mobile platforms. Both would benefit from all the know-how inside this book, that goes deep into not only the OpenCV framework fundamentals but also into some math required for creating powerful 2d/3d code and behaviours. A warn for beginners, you should know at least some C/C++ basic coding and some algebra (arrays, matrix and so) to not get lost while reading this book. Otherwise the book is a very useful and deep source of knowledge regarding OpenCV application to develop mobile apps.

Very detailed, deep book ob the subject

This book is not aimed to the beginner, for sure. The author goes deep into OpenCV of course, but also into the various algorithms used for computer vision. So, expect code, but also quite some math. If you are allergic to basic math, the skip this book: you will go deep into matrices, derivatives, etc. On the other hand, if you want to understand the behind the scene of OpenCV as well as how to use it (on Android), then this book is for you and you will probably enjoy it a lot. A very good mix between theory and application. Worth buying!

I had a chance to read "Mastering OpenCV Android Application Programming" recently on a request of Packt Publishing. I hope to help readers with this review. Let's go, I got my copy from Packt Publishing, where additional formats to download it are available. In my case, I preferred it in Kindle Edition, also they provide me the source code for each chapter to a better understanding of each topic.

This book is suitable for people who have at least basic knowledge in Android, OpenCV and Computer Vision, if you are new in Android maybe you should have to learn it before reading this book. Let's begin with the main review. The first chapters are about OpenCV basic concepts (brightness, contrast, color space, arithmetic and geometrical transforms) and how to set OpenCV in your Android project step by step. For every topic, they show the code, explanation and results.

Until chapter 5, the content was about main OpenCV functions with Android interactions, but here on-wards the interesting and useful projects are explained such as Image alignment and stitching with notable improvements. Moreover, a Machine Learning chapter explains how to use its potential for Android apps. A nice chapter explains the best practices for Android projects as well for debugging using logcat logs. Finally, an entire chapter dedicated for an Optical Character Recognition is detailed.

Afterwards, I found this book very useful and recommendable. Overall, this is a must-read book for Android programmers, and Computer Vision specialists.
