Excellent Book - But Full of Typos

I agree with all the positive comments on this book. It's really great. But there are *many* typos on the book. Sometimes, the typos can make it more difficult to understand the matter. Like when calling and called are interchanged. But I recommend the purchase of this book.

Probably the most comprehensive and up to date!

I am a researcher at Vienna University of Technology with the focus on signalling in IP networks. The current projects deal with PSTN/IP telephony convergence, so I needed a good understanding of SS7.

This book was easier to understand than the other popular book on SS7 (which I also own), contained better explanations, more practical details, and covered European network implementations in addition to US networks.

It seems very comprehensive as I was not forced to look up some other literature since all relevant topics are already covered.

The book has a very understandable introductions to SS7 AND full details of the protocol stack (MTP, ISUP, SCCP, TCAP) as well as its interaction with Intelligent Network services, GSM cellular networks like and IP.

There is even a chapter dedicated to SigTran, specifying the way how SS7 messages can be transported over IP networks.

It seems that the authors also have a clear understanding of IP networks which is very beneficial for the book, since it helps bridge over the two worlds.

I am glad to have a copy of this book in my library. It's probably the most comprehensive, best written and most up to date SS7 book available.

This is the book I've been looking for!

How great it is to find a book that covers the depth and breadth of SS7! Having worked with the SS7 protocol for the past 10 years, I am pleasantly surprised by this latest book by Lee Dryburgh and Jeff Hewett. Their book provides me one stop shopping, where in the past I have had to accumulate several technical resources to find the same information. Topics encompass telecom history, network terminology, interactions between PSTN and SS7 networks, SS7 protocols, SS7 testing requirements, application of TCAP protocols across an SS7 network, Next Generation protocols, and MORE!

.

This text is written in a manner that is easily understood by those new to the topic of SS7, and as such can be used as a training resource. Anyone who buys this book will keep it as a referral document for a long time to come.

It addresses the knotty and complex relationship between cinema and national identity, showing that the nationality of a cinema production company, and the films that its made, have not always been seen as pertinent. The volume begins by reviewing and rethinking the concept of national cinema in an age of globalisation, and it goes on to chart the parallel developments of national film industries and the idea of a nation state in countries as diverse as Japan, South Korea, Russia, France and Italy. The issues of a 'national cinema' for nation states of contested status, with disputed borders or displaced peoples, is discussed in relation to film-making in Taiwan, Ireland and Palestine. The contributors also consider the future of national cinema in an age of trans-national cultural flows, exploring issues of national identity and cinema in Latin America, Asia, the Middle-East, India, Africa and Europe. A Dangerous Man

**Gifted copy provided by the author for an honest review**

After Claim, we are left wanting to know how this story is going to continue/end. I was waiting anxiously for this one and I was not disappointed. Surrender is the conclusion to David and Sophie's love story. This time we get to read again from Sophie's point of view. I would have loved to read more from David's perspective too, at least one or two chapters, but we do get the Epilogue from his POV and that was just great.

We learn more about Sophie's past, and I must say that I really liked the way Serena told us this part of the story; I didn't see that one coming. We finally get to fully understand David's relationship with his mother, or lack thereof. We see why he was neglected by his mother while growing up and why she always chose his bully stepfather over him. That woman had a problem and I definitely do not blame David for the way he treats her. She totally deserves it!

This was everything I expected after following the whole series. I really loved the way David finally accepted his feelings. Don't get me wrong, he is just so stubborn and he still fights against his past demons and has trouble letting Sophie in. He wants Sophie but refuses to give her the only thing she wants. I knew he had to be the one to surrender, and boy he did :) Everything ended the way it should have, and I kind of wanted a little bit more, but then I always want more after finishing a good book :)

This is a fast read and the entire series is very well written. I would recommend this series to those who like fast paced romances with a little of mystery.

I would definitely be reading more books by this author.

Amazing!!!!

I'm a little bit saddened that Sophie and David's story comes to an end. But at the same time it also made me smile because in the end they both got what they deserved. I've always loved and adored both of them from the very beginning of their story. Their chemistry was very strong even from the very first time they've met. I loved how the story unfold, it had an edge to it that keeps you guessing. Once I started reading Surrender I can't put it down. I read it in one sitting. That's how much I enjoyed the book. I wont say much about the book as I don't want to give any spoiler at all. All I can say is that I love the story from start to end. And it was an amazing conclusion of Sophie and David's story. I absolutely loved it! It's a must read book!!!

what a great ending to this series, I'm sad to say goodbye to Sophie and David's story. when I started reading this last book I thought is was a bit slow like a train going up a tall mountain but after the first chapter it really started to pick up I can tell by this fourth book in the series the authors writing was much better in the sense that she took her time, the first book felt rushed, I didn't read the second book, the third was much better than the first and now the fourth and last book was just perfect ( except for the slow start) sophies character had matured and David's character got softer in a good way ( ; as I read about these characters growth I also could read the authors writing grow as well. I give Serena Grey a lot of credit with this being her first series, it was loveable,SEXY (which I have to have in any book I read!!) emotional, fun, sad, did I mention sexy?? it was like a train ride up and down through the mountains. I hope this author will write another series. BUT they have got to be longer if your going to charge anything over .99 to 1.99 (( ;

A book for someone who's actually going to install a solar PV system

I'm coming at this as a homeowner and generally handy person who's up for a bit of a challenge, wanting to install my own PV system on the roof of my Southern California home. There seem to be a lot of books on solar power that are just kind of informational and theoretical and don't really to tell you how to actually plan & install a system in a hands-on practical way. This is one of the few that actually aims to do that.

Looking at a finished PV system sitting on someone's roof, it is kind of deceptively simple. And the nuts and bolts of installation are not that hard, if you can do electrical work, it's not that different from any other kind of electrical equipment installation. BUT. The planning and understanding the components is really quite a challenge. The equipment has very unique properties. You have to analyze your electrical needs, survey the site and it's solar potential, understand the impact of the daily and seasonal workings of the sun and weather, figure out if you want batteries and how much battery power you need, and understand the main components, the solar panels themselves, the charge controller, the inverter, and the circuits and safety provisions. Sizing all the components. Permitting and nuts and bolts hardware installation. The book covers all of this, for the most part, in an organized, disciplined, and reasonably thorough manner.

In fact, the book seems to have even higher goals than mine, which is just to plan, install, and manage my own home system. This book is also overtly aimed at those interested in becoming a professional PV installer. You'd be pretty well grounded in that goal having thoroughly absorbed this book, along with some experience actually installing some systems, I think.

Is it perfect? No. For one thing, it's a "For Dummies" book so the introduction and organization are, frankly, kind of ridiculously repetitive. He tells us what he's going to tell us about 7 times - not exaggerating - before he actually starts the telling. And then at the start of each chapter, he tells you what he's gonna tell you another two or three times for good measure. Tiresome. This book is not really for dummies wanting to get a little basic information. True dummies, I think, are not going to be installing their own PV systems. It's for people with some ability who want to become experts.

There are a few things that could simplify things for a lot of people. Yes, it's good and necessary to be able to analyze someone's electrical needs by going around to each appliance and light and electrical load and checking it's wattage and the owner's usage patterns. But there's an easier and even more accurate way that most solar pros make use of, which is to simply check the past electrical bills for average daily, monthly and seasonal energy consumption. That's not an estimation, that's hard data. And you're gonna want to do this even after you do a load analysis just to double check your work. Sure, newly constructed buildings won't have past electric bills. But a lot of cases certainly will. But absolutely no mention of this tactic is made in the section on load analysis. Really odd.

Next, I would have liked to see some representative, carefully chosen, very specific examples of actual completed solar installations to illustrate in concrete terms the main types of installations (grid direct, stand-alone battery, and grid-connected with battery back-up.) How they were sized. The specific components used. Photos of the installations. That would have been immensely helpful in seeing how all the separate steps are brought together to a completed whole. There's nothing like that. This leaves all the separate chapters on various stages of the planning and execution seeming still theoretical and somewhat abstract.

There's not a single actual photo in this book. The diagrams and charts are fairly good. But not enough.

On balance, this is still a very good book with most of the critical theory and information in one place that you are absolutely going to need to do a proper PV installation. Are you really going to be ready to immediately plan and build a PV system? Probably not quite. But you'll have a very thorough grasp of what all the considerations are.

This is an excellent introduction to solar power

This is an excellent introduction to solar power. It is very well written by a man that obviously knows his subject. It is lucid and yet apparently comprehensive. I have a hard time getting my head around many principles of electricity, but Mr. Mayfield gently nudges me along with illuminating analogies and precise, simple and understandable language. I have tried other books on the subject written by electrical engineers but my eyes have quickly glazed over. Although I usually pass by anything in the "Dummies" stable, this book is worth every penny and then some. Thanks to Mr. Mayfield for the considerable work that obviously went into the production of this fine technical publication.

Detailed and Thorough Treatment of PV Systems

This is the best of the half dozen books I have read about solar electricity generation. All the other books I have read teach you about solar systems in general but don't give you enough of the nitty gritty nuts and bolts details to actually put one together. This book literally tells you what nuts and bolts are needed.

After having read the book I'm more excited about the info in the book than the prospect of actually being a PV installer. The trade sounds like a challenging if not overwhelming combination of electrician, electrical & electronic engineer, roofer and contractor.

All signs indicate that PV has a bright future hardy har so for those who wish to get into the trade this is an excellent place to start and probably all the book learning you'll need.
