John Campbell founded Campbell Alliance in 1997 using his extensive experience in the pharmaceutical, contract research, and information technology segments of the healthcare industry. Having working as an employee of multiple Pharma companies, and as a director of consulting for Pharma and Biotech companies, I believe this book provides a great overview of the industry. Believe it should be priced a little lower though.

Missed Opportunities

Being an enormous fan of Cirque Du Soleil and a musician, it was only a matter of time before I picked up a Cirque music book. Fans of Cirque have always been searching for sheet music, and this book has given exactly what they have been looking for. Collection contains 20 Cirque songs, arranged for piano and vocals, accompanied by optional guitar chords. The book contains a total of 120 pages that contain well written scores and, a joy to any singers, lyrics written in 'Cirquish' from the songs.

The most interesting thing about this music book is the arrangments that have been made for the piano. Cirque songs have a certain charm about them which is hard to re-create, so the concept of merging all parts into the piano was ingenious and risky at the same time. The results are mixed, ranging from the wonderfully done to the frightningly bad.

Stand-outs for this book include 'O', which remains true to the original track,'Love Dance', a beautiful arrangment using the full scale of the piano and the 'Triangle Tango', the seductive tango from Corteo (Violinists need not worry, as the violin part can be followed through the piano). Nice arrangments have also been done of 'Kumbalawe', 'Pokinoi' and 'Liama', and singers will be delighted with the inclusion of 'If I Could Reach Your Heart', 'Mio Bello Bello Amore' and 'Let Me Fall'. The book also contains a piece called 'L'Innocent' which is from Cirque's latest touring show called Kooza.

Unfortunatley, this book has a lot of missed opportunities and it's quite annoying. Included in this book is a memorable tango styled song called 'Querer'. The song alone could drive you crazy, but Alfred Publishing adds to the annoyance, by adding in 'Alone', which is a cover of Querer included in Cirque Du Soleil's 2005 production of Delirium, thus making them sound near identical. Another problem is the atrocious arrangments of 'Ombra' and 'Time Flies', which are just a bore to listen to and even worse to perform. These pieces could have easily been tossed aside and replaced with more pleasent, piano and vocal themed songs. No songs were included from Cirque Du Soleil's motion picture soundtrack of Alegria (including Let Love Live, Child in His Eyes and Love Leaves Someone Behind), and no pieces were included from Varekai (Rain One would have been perfect for this book).

All in all, the book is definitely a worthy buy. It is very fair price to pay and a must have for any Cirque fans as well as music fans.

I'm a long time Cirque du Soleil fan, and I plan on applying for a singing job with them in the future! It's so cool to be able to see the sheet music to their songs insted of learning it by ear! The book was in fabulous condition too!

Specialist book for unusual tables

Lamport's LaTeX is where you should start with tables. You can go far with simple tables but if you are doing something unusual, I recommend Voss, who provides many helpful examples. Crib, steal, copy, modify; its so much easier to do that than create a not-so-simple all by yourself. This clearly is a specialists book, but if you have unusual tables, it greatly simplifies the learning/development curve

One of the most highly recommended Books I've been told to read so far, and they were right.

I was curious about Paganism, Wicca, and the craft in general.
This is one of the better books out there as far as positive information about practices and utilizing the powers within the Earth and within us all.
Information on being one with the Earth, and your environment.
In my experience this is one of the most highly recommended books when it comes to all things "witchy".
Pretty much going back to our roots as human beings.
Our natural relationships with the Earth, Ourselves, and One another, and the literal power that holds. Things we've lost and forgotten over time.
You don't even need to be interested in Wicca to find this book useful. It's more-less about being more "natural". Maybe even more like a hippy than a witch or witchcraft, which basically all who don't practice black, or dark magick are.
The enlightened ones would benefit from reading this.

Clear, Understandable, & Fun to Read

This book is very informative. It helps understand much of the pagan and wicca beliefs. It clears up many of the negative ideas people have toward these ideas. It simply describes all the tools and background you need to start on your solo wicca journey. It's simply written & easy to understand. If you're interested in becoming wiccan, this is a great starting point here is fun to read. Grab a highlighter and get to educating yourself.

Firstly, I am completely new to Wicca. This book was actually recommended to me by several people who practice Wicca since I live in a rural area and really have to learn this religion by myself. So far, I have only read the first few sections but find myself engulfed already and in love!

I can not speak for the authenticity of the writing, because I am so new, there is no way for me to know if this book is a good place to start. But from reading other reviews and listening to those who recommended it to me, I am confident this was a good purchase.

I can however at least speak on the condition of the book I received. It arrived very quickly and in wonderful condition (pictures included in my review). The print is great and the book is definitely brand new. I was very happy this book included the author's own personal Book of Shadows. From what I understand, you should make your own Book of Shadows to fit your own needs/beliefs, but it is really helpful to have an example to get an idea of how you will want yours to be.

I can not wait to continue reading this book. I most likely will update my review after I finish to add more details if I feel it necessary.

About the Author

Jana Echevarría, Ph.D., is Professor Emerita at California State University, Long Beach where she was selected as Outstanding Professor. She has presented her research across the U.S. and internationally including Oxford University (England), Wits University (South Africa), Harvard University (U.S.), Stanford University (U.S.), University of Barcelona (Spain) and South East Europe University (Macedonia) where she was a Fulbright Specialist. A founding researcher of the SIOP Model her publications include multiple books, book chapters and journal articles.

 

MaryEllen Vogt, Ed.D., is Professor Emerita of Education at California State University, Long Beach. Dr. Vogt, a former classroom teacher, reading specialist, curriculum coordinator, and teacher educator, received her doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley. She is an author of over 60 articles and chapters, and is co-author of seventeen books for teachers and administrators, including Making Content Comprehensible for English Learners: The SIOP Model. Her research interests include improving comprehension in the content areas, teacher change and development, and content literacy and language acquisition for English learners. Dr. Vogt has provided professional development in all fifty states and in several other countries, including Germany, where she was invited to serve as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Cologne. She was inducted into the California Reading Hall of Fame, received her university’s Distinguished Faculty Teaching Award, and served as President of the International Reading Association.

 

Deborah J. Short, Ph.D., founded and directs Academic Language Research & Training, a consulting company, and provides professional development on sheltered instruction, content-based language teaching, and academic literacy worldwide. Formerly she was a Division Director at the Center for Applied Linguistics, Washington, DC, where she directed quasi-experimental and experimental studies on English learners funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York, Rockefeller Foundation, and U.S. Department of Education, among others. Her publications include journal articles, the SIOP® Model book series, and several ESL textbook series for National Geographic/Cengage. She taught English as a second/foreign language in New York, California, Virginia, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. She has served on the Board of Directors of the TESOL International Association and has presented research in the U.S., Canada, New Zealand, Brazil, Europe, and the Middle East.

Buyer beware, this textbook is meant for online consumption

There is nothing wrong with the 5the edition textbook's content but the paperback format is a big problem as it is full of great video references with no link URLs and with directions to "click here" for some great adjunct material but with no URL provided, no online access Code, and no super technology enabling one to click on a piece of paper to access the Cloud, the whole textbook experience is a fail. So, until they come up with a "patch" to fix their glitchy textbook, stick with an earlier edition if it comes with a disk or a Kindle version, they are cheaper anyway and the biggest enhancements of the 2017 5th edition are technology-based but with the technology missing. Ouch!

Warning to tertiary students

I purchased this book for a grad course. It contained an access code for videos, etc., but it did not work. When I contacted Pearson, I spent an hour online with them trying to figure out a solution and in the end they could not help me because I purchased the book from Amazon. Had I purchased the book from a college bookstore maybe they could have helped me. Also, they pride themselves with 24/7 support (Pearson), but it is not a guarantee- took over 15 minutes for some to show up on the other end to assist me.

I bought this used book for my college aged son. He needed it for a college class. Much cheaper than the campus bookstore. The book was in good condition.

This edition comes with a nice introduction and extensive notes. My son liked this book and said he learned a lot from it.

Interesting Reading

I bought this as a required textbook for a class. It is interesting; the introductions to each play really illuminate the material, and the footnotes provided resolve much of the confusion the language of some plays might give to the average reader. I would reccommend it as a textbook, as well as some interesting light reading for those interested in Medieval drama.
